First of all, you must be relaxed prior to your acupuncture treatment. You are not able to receive acupuncture with an empty or overly full stomach, so please eat an adequate amount of food before your treatment.
Following your treatment, your body continues to make adjustments for up to about 36 hours. You don’t have to literally lie down or take a nap, but resting allows the physical and emotional restoration that acupuncture sets in motion to continue. Exercise is fine, and the light and gradual movement can be a nice adjunct to an acupuncture treatment. There is some chance that you may experience an aggravation of the condition that you are being treated for. There is no cause for concern, as this is a healing response to the effective and unique treatment employed. The pain/discomfort and usually subside within 36 to 48 hours. Typically, the pain will then subside to a lower level than before the treatment.
